Wheat from the chaff

I'm going to be brutally honest and say that not much has impressed or inspired me from the incoming reports of LFW 2012 collections.

This Lady's work however, is the exception:

Charlotte Taylor's AW12 collection featured by Young British Designers.

I was in the coal mine picking up diamonds so heavy I had to leave them all behind

This week brings more giant china diamond rings.

I love Bell Jars.

They crawl from the oceans to paint in the caves.

When I lived in Manchester, if ever I was feeling unnerved or restless, whenever I was feeling stuck in a creative rut and uninspired I would head down to the Manchester City Art Gallery.

My desired destination hung three quarters of the way around the main exhibition on the ground floor and waiting silently for me would be the beautifully tragic Ophelia, a small but powerfully moving piece by the Pre-Raphelite painter, Arthur Hughes.

Very different from John William Waterhouse's Ophelia,  created in 1852 this painting shows Hamlet's young girl moments before she enters the water.

I always wanted to reach inside and hold her back.

Like any gallery painting, you can not see or feel the effect it has unless you visit the painting itself but I can not begin to explain the peace I felt whenever I stood in front of it.

Thank the Lord for Art Galleries.

I feel a pull on my fur and a hundred tiny hands.

Ros Millar: Black and Rose.

Ros Millar's Black And Rose Collection.

Another one on my 'Must Have List'.

Ros Millar, grew up in Bangor, Northern Ireland, and first exploited her passion for jewellery while studying for a Foundation Degree in Art and Design at Ulster University in Belfast. She developed her skills, moving to Sheffield to study for her Degree of BA (Hons) in Metalwork and Jewellery. Since graduating in 2009 her work has attracted attention from around the industry. She is now based in London and is working to expand her current collection.
Ros Millar’s work comprises a range of jewellery focussing mainly on rings and large neckpieces. In her exploration of materials and colours she uses processes such as cuttlebone casting and photo-etching. Her collection is to be enjoyed on and off the body allowing the wearer to grow and develop an appreciation of the true beauty and subtle complexities inherent within her work.

Must see. 2012. part 1

Yoko Ono

     19th June – 9th September @ The Serpentine Gallery

Celebrating Yoko’s 50 year career as a multi-media conceptual and performance artist, not to mention global icon, this show will encompass both new and existing films, performances and installations from the 1960’s to the present day. Her running project ‘SMILE’ will also be on show, which she is working on for the London 2012 opening event. For SMILE, Yoko invites people from across the road to take a photograph of themselves smiling and upload it to the internet, creating a global archive of happy faces. There will also be a photobooth in the gallery for people to participate.
