Paper Rock Scissors

I'm a huge fan of paper art. Whether it's paper houses, boats, book relief art or origami there is a certain aesthetic that paper brings to a structure.

Here are two gorgeous examples of paper/card being used to create large scale computer screens and programmes used for creating and editing computer aided design.

It only takes a camera to change her mind.

I'm not the world's biggest designer label enthusiast but I have my favourites. I buy Elle Collection mainly to drool over the patterns, materials, shapes and colours. I have always placed Balenciaga and Viktor & Rolf up past any other design houses purely because I am usually stunned by their ingenious designs.

Perusing the latest offerings on Vogue Paris my attention was caught by the work of Bouchra Jarrar. This is the fourth collection from the invited member of the prestigious Chambre Syndicate de la Haute Couture.

If only I had the money....

My Hands Hurt

January and February are sample making months. I need to get as much done as possible to send out to company buyers and shops.

It can be monotonous.

This has been on in the workshop today. It's keeping me going (with added help from the coffee machine)

Roll on March.

On to the next one.

I spent all last week finishing shop orders for these. Hundreds of spearheads. That is all.

Turn on the bright lights.

Yesterday was lovely. I popped into London to meet up with some of my best friends and celebrate the recent work of one of my girls, Zena May Hendrick.

Zena is a talented London based maker and can turn her hand at pretty much everything. Her current specialty is prop/costume/window design and has just finished assisting Lou Blackshaw in the creation of the 'Tom Lipop, Menswear Designer' window in Selfridges for the 'Bright Young Things' show case.

The window display shows a ghostly masked motorcyclist being chased by a Hare and Wolf all carrying Tom's Stunning bags. The window's design and detail is incredible.  All the pieces featured are made of paper.

Tom, Lou and Zena working through the night in the Selfridges window.

I love the detail in the paper brogues.

Here is Tom's website. Absolute genius!

Definitely worth a visit.

A friend I work with recently introduced me to one of their artist friends. This wonderful footage of her working is on the website.

Stunning work Chloë.

I am collecting bell jars for the allotment but I now want to keep them in the house.

I see this becoming a problem.

And I will be alone again tonight my dear.

The Good Companions.

I am simplifying my life in many ways in preparation for the New Year and distant future.

In doing so, I have realised that I do not use many things on a day to day basis.

These are the two items I use the most. There is an 85 year age gap between them yet I use/need them both equally for my work.

It makes me smile.

Realistic Resolutions.

As the wind is beating around the trees in our garden this morning and the coffee beans are beating around the grinder, I am feeling so excited for the coming year.

A few things I have started to list:

To rip out our kitchen in favour of Fired Earth tiles, copper pans and a Belfast sink. It's finally getting done!
(Kinfolk)

I pretty much ride my bike everyday so I will take it on even more adventures.
(Kinfolk)

Where I can't cycle, I will walk.
(Kinfolk)

I will carry on learning Italian from my vinyl Linguaphone, although I need to move on to advanced.

I hope everyone else is setting realistic goals for 2012?

Wishing everyone the best for the next 365 days.

This is years old but I still love it all the same.
